Matt Aitken

Matt Aitken is a commercial real estate agent for Sherman & Hemstreet. He was elected as District One Commissioner (2010-2012) in downtown Augusta which gave him many opportunities to learn about local government. Matt served on the Engineering Committee which looked at all of the city's development projects. He was also the Ex Officio on Augusta Richmond County Planning and Zoning and the Aviation Board. Matt had the privilege of getting a 38mm installed at the Augusta Convention Center with a new 12m Parking Deck built that gives Augusta a competitive edge for economic venues.
Matt's passion is to see Augusta grow to be an economically competitive city. His ideas include growing downtown Augusta with revamping many of the historic buildings, seeing development of the Augusta Canal and also development of the Savannah River. Matt received his real estate license in 2014, after retiring from a 19-year career at Olin Corp with 12 of those years with perfect attendance. He serves on the board at Morris Museum of Art, the Institutional Review Board at Georgia Regents University, and is currently a member of the Coalition of Prison Evangelists (COPE).
