$15 Million Mixed Use Development Announced
Housing and Community Development in conjunction with Gateway to Augusta announced plans for a new $15 million mixed-used multi-family/retail development – “The James” - that will be constructed along James Brown Boulevard in the historic Laney Walker/Bethlehem neighborhood. At the announcement on the site of the proposed development, Housing and Community Development Director Hawthorne E. Welcher, Jr., along with Sherman and Hemstreet President/Broker and Gateway to Augusta Representative Joe Edge, revealed plans for the site of “The James”, which will include 112 units, ground floor retail space, and on-site amenities, while standing alongside with City of Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis, Jr., Augusta Commissioners Bill Fennoy, Sammie Sias, and Ben Hasan, along with representatives from the Downtown Development Authority and the Augusta Economic Development Authority.
The partnership between Housing and Community Development and Gateway to Augusta will cement a strong investment into the Laney Walker/Bethlehem neighborhood that will bring new housing opportunities as well as allow on and off-site residents of the area to have a retail shopping experience at this new development.
This project continues to show the commitment by the City of Augusta along with its partners at Sherman and Hemstreet Real Estate to help turn around the Laney Walker/Bethlehem neighborhood through investments and revitalization projects as currently seen through the enhancements in housing along Pine and Perry Streets in the area.
